autumn recovered

a dizzy troop of Red Admirals.
floats, like fallen maple leaves

meandering in the waves
of warm and soft autumnal breezes,

red sails. pixelated pirate galleon
set fair above the waves of fiery fall herbaceous borders.

recompense paid at last against
the rape and devastation of succulent nasturtiums,

glossy green leaves cut to shreds
by the origami mouth of caterpillars.

the price we pay to enjoy,
this gay display of red and black

an attack on the greenery of tropaeolum
just now in flower late coming back

as the admiral ladies dip and sip
and hum content on harps of threaded tongues

It occurs to me, butterflies & nasturtiums
complement, in heat each-others colours
