Death came creeping

Death the wicked bitch
came creeping in
on November twilight.
Invaded seams on streets,
cracks between paving slabs.

she painted rimes of white
on night dark windows,
her fingers scratched and scraped
laths between quaking ribs
until she slipped inside.

She burrowed liver deep
into the cold stone step
beneath my weight numb spine,
nails clawed my dirty face
rapine claws tore heat away.

Stole blood from toes and nose
and prayers from trembling lips,
from hips and neck.
Invaded me
through throat and nose

froze me from the inside -out.
