I love you

I love you
in the same way
that you do children.

In the way our eldest boy
loves dogs

and our youngest
does frogs.

It’s not rational
or logical
but elliptical
and cyclical.

I adore you
as the sea adores
the sky
in all of its
grey blue wonder

when they merge
on a frost
encrusted winter evening.

I need you
as the brittle Aspen
needs the breath.
of soft summer haze.

As the flush of meadow
rises up
to kiss the eyes
of April days.
