Shades of blue

This cloying thing
these drapes of misery.
How many shades
of blue
can we hang
on walls and windows?

closing out the sun and the beat of living,
Teardrop blues, leak from the lime greens
of bedroom throws
and bed clothes

deep azure blue spills, onto floors,
stains remain.

Blue ink.
To kill the
cerise pinks
and fiery reds
of party season,
No we say. Not this year
It would be treason

to turn our back
on this hard won stack of deep blue.
Material collected
and selected

for its depth of grieving,

not quite black.
weaving misery,
adoring yet
this ability to sustain the funk of death.
