Carrick-a-rede

image

Running hard. I see them on the path,
And I run hard too with the pack.
Tonight we bring the bondsmen back.

Through the dark tree they have gone,
Past Armoy to Ballintoy, they run
To a bridge above the northern seas.
I see it clear. They’re almost free
.
We hounds are loose on the road.
Through the dark trees we flow.
Hearts beat wild under starlight,
Howling as we close on those in flight.
.
They are on the bridge, we hounds are near.
The lady falls and shakes with fear.
Ten more step to Carrick -a -rede,
ten more seconds and they break free
.
We hounds come on slinking low,
along the bridge still sure and slow.
Fionn and Emer now hand in hand
fly like falcon from the land.
.
On rocks below where waves crash,
Hand in hand two bodies dashed.
On Carrick-a-rede a hounds cry
Free at last in death. we saw love die.
