Leaving

All I knew until today
explodes in a starburst
at the corner of my eye.

The diamond towers reflect
a multitude of burnished smiles
the river a tongue of molten lies
the horizon and the amber morn
Shimmer in a blaze of scorn

Beyond the city
purple mountains
float above morning mist

I am a day and a night away
life shimmering in weary eyes
beneath an early city sky

The past behind
and the future ahead
but for now
indecision clouds
A beer soaked head.

To turn back to all I was
or forge ahead
To be constant
or to grow.
I hesitate on the brink
of everything I know
