Tenements and Terraces.

They come
the scions of
the tenements
and the terraces,
from the flats
and the dives,
they come like ants
from their hills
or bees from their hives,
they come now
the singers the soulful
the sound,
they come the playful
the players the loud,
then come the talkers,
the writers the proud.
From these will come leaders
and teachers and change.
They will live the hell
of your creation,
reaping the sin of our generation
1916’s lost dream of nation
sold from the lips
of void incantation.
Here come the children
Of twenty sixteen
a new generation
who scream to be seen.
The fools and the fighters
the bright faced and strong
the next generation
they wont get it wrong.

As Ireland celebrates the centenary of the rising of 1916 when our small nation made its bid for independence I for one feel that the vision of those who died has been bismerched by the corrupt, the lazy, the greedy and the incompetent who have followed in the wake of heroes. I hope the sons and daughters of 2016 can forgive us and can restore the pride of our patriot dead.
