WHAT WE KNOW

It takes forever to know
and even then
you only know
a little.

You do not know
what the birds know
or the mouse or the fly
You know
What it is to breathe to live
but not what it is to die

You know only yourself
And even then just enough
You know what it is to be soft
But you know nothing about being tough.

You know nothing of mountains or lakes, you know even less of the sea
You know a little about the I
And nothing at all about the we.

You know your job
but not your place
You know yourself
but not your face

You know it all
But just in case
You get ahead of yourself
It is important to recall
That as a matter of fact
You actually know
nothing at all.
