Two Men

I sat ragged

on a bamboo bridge.

boots tattered and worn

feet bloodied and torn.

for authenticity

I see

a beggar

boots falling off

battered bloodied feet

A man came

he gave me boots

he photographed

his charity.

I cry, pity for him

and his foolishness

He offered me

his old boots

so I would know

he said

what I had done

He didn’t understand

He was just a man

spoilt by his world,

he wanted A photograph only

I wanted a real photograph

He wanted

a memory

of a story

which he will

never understand
