This Rural Town

Slowly strangling in deep roots
That go far far down.
To the heart of this rural town

Where ties bind and chain and
Dreams remain as dream only
Forever in this rural town

Here all is know and what is
Not is home-grown and served
Up hot in this rural town

And each day leads to
The slow decay of the boy
Who grew up in this rural town

Faces blend where there
Is no end to the whispers that
Echo through this rural town

Where people smile as they pass
By to live unseen and then
To die in this rural town

So I leave today the town I love
Without delay to live unknown
Far far away from this rural town.
