A Thousand Poems

A thousand poems I read
Poem on poem as lines bleed
And words of love, despair and rage
Spill across page on page

Poems that focus on lost love
Or composed in praise of gods above
Rhymes of death and inward pain
Lines of the tormented and insane

Lines composed with skilful pen
That engage for a moment but then
Are lost under weight of many others
None more beautiful than its brothers

Still I admire the poets art
As each gives us of himself apart
In the words and lines that he finds
So image and emotion fill our minds

Then one in a thousand will take my breath away.
Lyrical words in perfect array
Thoughts flowing from a blessed mind
A precious thing. A one in a thousand kind.

  1. Hi!
I love your poem. First, I love rhyming poems. It is reminiscent of Silverstein. Next, your words are so intense. They seem to contradict each other. Words of love and despair and rage side by side. I am trying to analyze. I loved your uplifting ending.
