Pride

Pride like a long coat I wore
As a newly acquired decoration
Strutted tall and brave cock sure
Full of misplaced self admiration

Head high and beaming bright
With self regard and unearned dignity
Blinded by cheap self worth
I tripped upon the coattails of humility

But like a stumbling fool I rose
My ego calling me to action
And again I marched to my own tune
Replete with honour and self satisfaction

But ego was a foul rigged wire
Primed to trip and pull me down
And pridefulness a prankster
That showed me then for the clown.
