A Kiss Becomes a Scar

A kiss becomes a scar.

Don’t fall as I have done
Into the tangle of care
Avoid her nets and traps
And step clear of her snare

Don’t risk the brush of rosy lips
And still your beating heart
Look away when the temptress smiles
Least she trap your soul and sell it part by part

For love in time will die of thirst
Or stray to another shining star
And if your heart be bound in love
You will die each time a kiss becomes a scar.
