To Alter Your Life

I doubt any of us can say that we have not day dreamed about turning our back on all of our responsibilities and living our dream. Maybe taking to the road, starting our own business, becoming a writer, artist, musician or myriad other possibilities. But of course we don’t, we are responsible adults after all. This poem is about being irresponsible, about taking that chance, about chasing the dream and striving for something better. Breaking free of the skin that binds. I would love to think it will inspire some to take the leap.

To alter your life.

To alter your life.

To break free from all of that.

To leave behind all that holds you down

To have the courage

To make that change

To take all that defines you

Your struggle, your pain

Your joy, your happiness

And turn it all askew

To reach for something better

To answer the screaming voice

To step free of the skin that binds

To rise and be all that you can

To break the bonds and soar

A new you

A new day

A new life awaits.
