Pieces of Peace

Pieces of Peace

 Late at night

On the edge of sleep

The fragmented debris of the day

Forms your face

And I am happy for a while

I sleep in peace

Walk on the cliffs

Cry of gulls, surf washing ashore

Booming surge of other distant waves

Echoes of your laughter

And I am happy for a while

I walk in peace.

Morning rush. Driving to work

Temper flares. Humour fails

But in the chaos

Your voice

And I am happy for a while

I drive in peace

Autumn Storm

At the window

Lightening. Thunder. Galeforce.

Pulse of your energy

And I am happy for a while

I watch in peace

Summer evening

On the garden steps

Heat rising, fragrance of bloom

Sense of your drowsey head on my shoulder

And I am happy for a while

I sit in peace

Early Sunday. Standing by your grave

Hot tears

Anger and regret

Your hand reaches for mine

I am still full of sorrow

But I am at peace

(All my life until death takes me

In pain

In joy

Stay with me Shaun

And I will be happy

I will be at peace

As you are now

Rest in peace my darling child.)
