I Am Alone

I am Alone

Mean city corner

Filthy and foul

Hunger gnaws on twisted bowel

A shadow man

Seeks shelter from the cold

Life on the streets

Outside the fold

I am alone

And all they say is

There goes I… As they walk away

Sitting in a doorway

Proud woman pass by

Daughter of Liberties

Dublin as I

Coin in my fist but then she is gone

Duty fulfilled, Gods work done

I am alone

And I hear her say

There goes I…As she walks away

Sting of raw spirit

Cheaply sold

Pay with pain later

A shield from the cold

Hunger forgotten, streets once again mine

Remember dear Rosie

Forget her dying

I am alone

Did I hear her say

There goes I…As she faded away

Low winter sun

Stings red blood shot eyes

Stink off my body

Scream silent cries

Son. Father. Husband I am no more

Just a displaced citizen

Who sleeps in this vacant door

I am alone

I can hear you say

There goes I…As you walk away
